Spelling/grammatical errors

Good morning and Happy Friday!

Today I'm going to talk about something that may offend some, but needs to be talked about. It's all about spelling and grammatical errors. I have never said I'm perfect, but when it comes to my spelling, I try to be. It's probably due to my OCD about certain things (spelling, counting things, etc) and believe me when I say that I am not trying to be an a**hole when I correct your spelling, it's my OCD. I am obsessed with correct spelling!!! Here's a small list of items that people are constantly either spelling incorrectly, or using incorrectly. I've provided sentences to show when you should use each word.....

1. Your/You're
The word your is the possessive form of you, referring to something that a person has, or something that belongs to the person in discussion. Example: Your shirt is red.
The word you're is a contraction, or a combination of the words you and are. Example: You're a great friend.

2. There/Their/They're
Use there when referring to a place. Example: We're going over there.
The word their is used to indicate possession. Example: Their kids are very polite.
The word they're is a contraction of the words they and are. Example: They're going to buy us some new clothes!
Test your usage. When you use any of these three words, get in the habit of asking yourself these questions:
If you wrote there, will the sentence still make sense if you replace it with here? If so, you're using it correctly.
If you chose their, will the sentence still make sense if you replace it with our? If so, you've chosen the correct word.
If you used they're, will the sentence still make sense if you replace it with they are? If so, you're on the right track!

3. Than/then
Use the word than when you are talking about a noun being more, less, better, cooler, etc in relation to another noun. Example: I am way cooler than you are.
Use the word then when indicating time. Example: Wash the clothes, then put them in the dryer

4. A lot/Allot
You use the word a lot when talking about a quantity. Remember that it has a space in the middle. There is no word "alot", it is always 2 words. Example: I have a lot of money.
Allot is used when you are referring to giving out, apportioning, or dividing something. Example: He was allotted three minutes to give his speech.

I think for now, that's all I've got. I hope I didn't offend anyone, I only hope that by reading this, you'll use the proper words and I can stop bothering you on Facebook with my corrections. Though everyone knows, I am the "Anal Spell-Checker".

Until tomorrow! Have a wonderful Friday!!

  1. Oh gawd, woman...you are a whack tart! But that is what we love about you. Here is my take on my spelling and gramatical errors.
I f****d around ALOT, during typing class. I was more interested in making funny faces at Tarra in the next room, or flirting with Brandy, THAN actually learning how to type.
So as a result, I can only type 40 wpm and that is by looking at the keyboard. I find it hard to keep up with YOUR keystrokes in our online conversations, and as we speak I should be doing my work, but I am rushing to get these comments in. Rushing, THERE is another reason I think so much "word shortening" and "lazy spelling" happens. We are all just trying to get our stuff said with no real care about how its transcripted. IE: LOL, OMG, WTF... all time savers in the blogging/texting worlds.
If YOU'RE going to put restrictions on your readers comments, THEN you may not get ALOT of them... HAHAHAHA. JK I will always give you my opinion. Now I have tried very hard to spell everything in this comment correctly, and grammaticaly correct, and it had taken me much time. I hope you appreciate my take on this. I know I appreciate YOUR anal-ness. :)
